Waiheke Adventures!

For the Faint and not-so-faint hearted

By Kathy McCombe, GM – Development & Solutions, Frog Recruitment

On a recent stint to Waiheke Island we immersed ourselves in two new experiences; the first was for the not-so-faint hearted/adrenaline seeker and the second was about tantalising the taste buds and senses… read on.

Stop 1: Adrenaline Intensifying And Eco Friendly

For an adventure with a difference check out EcoZip Adventures.

With a short ferry trip to Waiheke Island (and complimentary pick up from the ferry terminal at Matiatia Wharf) get set to embark on a wild experience.

On arrival at Trig Hill you are geared up and readied for the most eco-friendly ride of a lifetime!

Not to give too much away but the 3 x 200m dual flying fox ziplines, fly you smoothly side-by-side with a partner or friend, down into a stunning tract of original and regenerating native bush. Along the way you will see wood pigeons among other native birds and even a glimpse of Auckland. It concludes with a scenic interpretive walk back to base where you hear about local flora and fauna and the conservation of the spectacular natural environment.

Perfect for the family, overseas visitors, visiting in-laws, long lost cousins, an adventurous date, a girl’s weekend on the island…you will not only love this experience, you will talk about it for ages to come. Click here to find out more!

Stop 2: Taste Bud Tantalising

Next stop…Peacock Sky.  Combined with EcoZip or not, pop in here to experience the views, food and wine.

The owners of Peacock Sky Vineyard have migrated thousands of miles to start their new life in the centre of Waiheke Island surrounded by lush native bush and overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. They share their home with a flock of wild peacocks from which the vineyard takes its name and a very special border collie named Sky.

dogIn fact as the story goes, Sky is the owner and is definitely is ‘top dog’ around the place.  The dog theme carries on into the menu with cold platters called ‘Beagle Baby’ and mains coming in as ‘Great Dane’ and ‘Retriever’.

Choose from tasting platters, enjoy wine tastings accompanied by matching food or go for the full lunch menu.  If you are game enough there is an option of champagne breakfast before you hit the EcoZip.  A food and wine experience not to be missed.  Enjoy!
